Intro
‘Embryon’, showcasing a custom San-Mai Damascus Steel pattern flowing across the blade in a bright hand-rubbed mirror finish, the blade is crafted with the world-renowned meteorite, the Muonionalusta, being one of the oldest meteorites ever recorded. The meteorite has been meticulously forged and refined into a purified ingot, that has then been forged alongside Damascus-Steel to act as the hardened cutting edge; bringing form, function, and a piece of history all tied together. Paired with a handle hand-carved to create an otherworldly aura inset with Meteoric Gem Bronze, creating a show of bouncing colors and reflections in the light.
Inspired by the mysteries of our universe, the envision was to craft a piece that reflects the otherworldly nature of the materials through fruition of the final piece in an “alien-like” design. Deriving from the Greek translation meaning “embryo” or “offspring”, ‘Embryon’ signifies an intent of reflection to deep sea life. Inspired by ancient fossils and life of our past, showcases an intricate hollow handle carefully forged specifically to reflect the fossils of ancient squids frozen in time and buried in the ancient sediment as they brightly contrast the darkness of stone around them…
The Meteoric Gem Bronze inset into the heart of the void within the handle, is a truly one-of-a-kind material custom made by renowned chemist and metallurgist, Mike Pommer. This material is a bronze mixture custom-made and treated under extensive efforts and processes to crystallize the bronze, brining out an array of visible patterns across the material cognizant of the ancient crystalline structures seen in meteorite. These crystals have formed so large within the molten metal that they are now visible to the naked eye, and Mike took on the challenge of attempting to melt genuine Muonionalusta Meteorite Iron dust into his specialty mixture; and after careful trial and error, created the only 2 small bars of this unique Meteoric material that will ever be made.
Nicely weighted and comfortable in the hand, the blade balances just inside the finger groove. The blade holds a nimble rocking motion and comfortable grip, built for use and working the hardened sharp cutting edge in a culinary fashion. Included is a signed Certificate Of Authenticity (COA) and custom-forged stand for displaying of the piece.
Forged in Dare’s studio based in Boise, Idaho. March 29th, 2026.
The Meteorite
The blade is crafted with the 4.5 billion year-old meteor, the Muonionalusta, discovered in 1906 near the border of Sweden and Finland by a group of children who found what they described as an “unusual rock”… Later it was studied to have traveled through the solar system for over 4.56 billion years before striking Earth nearly one million years ago. It was found to be one of the oldest meteorites ever recorded, with a crystalline structure consisting of iron and nickel formed over millions of years; that truly sets it apart from many iron meteorite species.
Included is a signed Certificate Of Authenticity (COA) and custom-forged stand for displaying of the piece.
